DJ Maphorisa’s Early Life

Themba Sekowe, also known as DJ Maphorisa, is a South African DJ, music producer, vocalist, and songwriter born on November 15, 1987. DJ Maphorisa went to high school in the area where he was raised. Like most musical artists, he was an ordinary student and took a keen interest in his musical profession. The record producer decided to return to school, but he kept his course of study a secret. Reports have it that he has already officially begun his studies, and it looks like he might graduate from college soon. His song “Midnight Starring” received the most votes at the third Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards presentation on November 27, 2018.

The studio EP “Banyana,” featuring Maphorisa and Tyler ICU, was released on April 16, 2021. The South African Recording Industry recognized the single “Banyana” as double platinum after it achieved more than 4.2 million streams. DJ Maphorisa was given the Best DJ nomination for the 2021 Music Kwaito and House Music Awards. 

In October 2021, he collaborated on the tracks “Makosa” and “Nyota” from the Motion album with singer TRESOR. The popular DJ also collaborated with Afrika Memani in November 2022 to compose the “Road to Private” EP, which was released on November 4. At the Soundcity MVP Awards, which were hosted at the Eko Convention Center in Lagos, DJ Maphporisa was awarded the African DJ of the Year title.
